Postgraduate Studies

Doctoral education at the Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering is doctoral education and it is scientific in nature. In studies leading to the Licentiate or Doctor of Science (Technology) degree, the student “becomes conversant with the development, basic problems and research methods of his/her own field of research” (Government Decree on University Degrees, Section 21, 794/2004).

Doctoral education is exclusively researcher training, in which learning is integrated with research, following the basic idea of the university.

Postgraduate studies in the Department of Signal Processing and Acoustics is organized mainly through graduate schools. The Graduate School in Electronics, Telecommunications and Automation GETA is a post graduate programme coordinated by Aalto University School of Electrical Engineering.

GETA provides a four year doctoral program on the basis of a Master´s or equivalent degree in electronics, telecommunications and automation or related field. The studies consist of courses and seminars (20-25 %) and research work ending in a thesis (75-80 %). Most courses and seminars are given in English. Application is arranged annually. GETA is the largest graduate school in Finland with 67 research student positions.
